ShowStudio – the pioneering digital platform from Nick Knight – last night named Russian fashion brand Outlaw as the winner of their debut Fashion Film Award. The winning entry, chosen from judges that included Artistic Director of DIESELNicola Formichetti and film maker Ruth Hogben, came from Director Maksim Bashkaev, with his entry entitled OUTLAW. Set in Moscow, Russia, the film focused "on the outlawed who take the alternative route, combining the mixed cultural patterns of the Empire and Soviet eras."

“The characters in the film at the same time seem to be disconnected from the surroundings but also they are very natural to the location where they appear,” said Outlaw’s founder Maksim Bashkaev. “This controversial sense of the disconnection and the attachment of the ‘outlaw people’ to their life in Russia is very representative and authentic.”

Maksim took away a £10,000 cash prize to put towards his next film as well as tutoring from Nick and new equipment. In a rousing acceptance speech, Maksim said, "I made this video to show people another side of Russia. Not the side you see in the media. There are lots of us standing up for gay, lesbian and minority communities and I wanted to show that."
